What Are Threaded Rods?

Threaded rods (also called all-thread, studding, or anchor rods) are rods with continuous threads along their entire length. They are used in place of bolts when the fastening length is unknown or when through-barrier fastening is required. Threaded rods can be cut to any length on-site, making them highly versatile for custom applications.

Specifications

Threaded rods are available in metric sizes from M6 to M48 and in lengths up to 3 meters (longer rods can be custom-manufactured or joined with couplers). Common materials include zinc-plated steel for indoor use, hot-dip galvanized steel for outdoor and coastal applications, and stainless steel A2/A4 for maximum corrosion resistance.

Common Applications

Threaded rods are used in many African construction applications: suspended ceilings—hanging support for acoustic and drywall ceilings; HVAC systems—mounting ductwork and equipment; electrical—supporting cable trays and conduit; structural—creating adjustable tie rods in beams and columns; and plumbing—supporting pipes and equipment.

Installation Best Practices

For proper installation: cut threaded rod to exact length using a hacksaw or bandsaw; clean cut threads with a die or thread chaser before use; use washers and nuts at both ends for proper bearing; for structural applications, specify full-length engagement with nuts; and consider using thread-locking compound for vibrating applications.

Extending Threaded Rods

When longer lengths are needed, threaded rods can be joined using coupling nuts (threaded couplers). The minimum overlap should be 1.5 times the rod diameter for each coupler. For critical structural applications, consider using continuous rods instead of joined sections to eliminate potential failure points at the coupler.

Preguntas Frecuentes

What are Technical Guide and how are they used?

Technical Guide are essential components in construction and manufacturing. Proper selection depends on load requirements, environmental conditions, and material compatibility.

How do I choose the right fastener for my project?

Consider the material being fastened, load requirements, environmental exposure, and applicable standards. Consult with a professional if unsure about specifications.

What materials are available for these fasteners?

Common materials include carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy steel, and specialty alloys. Each offers different strength, corrosion resistance, and cost characteristics.

Do you offer custom manufacturing?
